Seven-Day Practical Faith Blog: Don't Let the Wall Stop You

Have you ever felt like you were getting distant from God? That feeling might seep in when you realized you hadn't read the Bible in a while. Or perhaps your prayer life had dulled or become infrequent.
Personally, I feel badly because I have gotten away from my daily Bible reading plan. It seems harder to pick it up again, knowing I'm behind, realizing I prioritized other, lesser things.
We can go through dry spells in our seven-day practical faith life. I imagine most people have. Perhaps worse than the drought itself is the wall.
When we feel badly about drifting from God, we might start building a wall to hide our shame. Shame - that's one of Satan's greatest tools. When we feel shame, we feel unworthy. We feel like God wants nothing to do with us. We feel like there's no road back. And we start building a wall between us and God.
The truth is that God doesn't build walls. God always wants to be involved with us. God is the father of the prodigal, racing down the road to greet us. God wants us to tear down that wall we've constructed.
But we have to stop building that wall, break through it, and leave it in ruins. We can do it, starting today.
Jeremiah wrote in Lamentations 3:40, "Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the Lord." Israel had departed from the Lord, and many citizens suffered the consequences of Babylonian exile. Left behind in Jerusalem, Jeremiah considered how to start fresh with God. We can start fresh, too.
Remember: God loves you. God forgives you. God sends you into the world each day. God intends to be in eternal relationship with you. And God certainly doesn't want any walls in the way.
