Podcast Blog: S5, E21 - Marit Welker, Waiting for Your Child to Return

One in four families experiences estranged relationships. Because it's such a common phenomenon, even in her own family, Marit Welker has developed a coaching option for estranged parents.

This is the first podcast interview I can recall that is a logical sequel to an earlier podcast. Welker reached out to me after listening to episode 19 with Ashley Kinkead and her formula for repairing estranged relationships. Welker has more to say about the process based on her personal experience on both sides of the equation.

In this podcast, Welker talks about the reasons why children break with their parents, the problems with fixing relationships, and her own experience in rebuilding her broken relationships.

To me, the emotional high point of the podcast was when Welker spoke tenderly to parents estranged from children, telling them to wait, using the model of the prodigal's father. That moment leapt out at me and stuck with me.

Highlights of the podcast:

11:42 Welker recommends parents follow the parable of the father of the prodigal son

18:50 How Welker rebuilt the relationship with her son

20:56 How did humility play a role in restoring relationship?

22:16 How to find Welker’s coaching and podcast
