Practical Faith Academy Blog: S6, E9 - Ingrid Hanson-Popp, Dealing with Aging Parents

Nearly 25% of U.S. adults are serving as family caregivers, providing ongoing care to an adult or child with a medical condition, disability, or aging need. For many other adults, their turn is coming.
Ingrid Hanson-Popp took her turn and was changed by the experience. Hanson-Popp became an unexpected expert in adult caregiving when her mother's health declined, thrusting her into a world she felt unprepared to navigate. While juggling career and family responsibilities, she discovered the isolating reality many adult children face when becoming their parents' caregivers.
In this episode, Hanson-Popp shares her thoughts and experience about caring for and even losing your aging parent. She discusses details of care plans and dealing with your parent’s resistance to change. Hanson-Popp also gives her ideas on living a daily faith, even in the midst of caregiving.
From this episode, I learned how each caregiving assignment is a different experience. For Hanson-Popp, caring for her mother was very different than what is ahead with her in-laws. Still, Hanson-Popp offers advice and resources designed to match a variety of situations.
