Psalm 55:22
My friend was overwhelmed. "God doesn't give you more than you can handle, right?" she asked. I wanted to say, and wish now I had said, "I thought that was the point of God. Life is too much to handle. We need God to get through it."
I read a blog post that said, "There are two sins: Pride and despair. Pride causes us to think we can do it without God, and despair makes us think God can’t."
I've felt overwhelmed recently and have had to consider how much I succumb to both pride and despair. I feel like the weight is all on me, and I wonder what God is really up to and whether he can make things happen as I wish. (There's another problem with my attitude: God isn't a genie granting me wishes).
A verse that well addresses both pride and despair is Psalm 55:22 (NIV).
Cast your cares on the Lord
and he will sustain you;
he will never let
the righteous be shaken.
Casting your cares on the Lord addresses pride; acknowledging that God will protect the righteous addresses despair.
When we cast our cares on God, we will experience the full benefits of God's tenderness and providence.
Here are some opportunities to get to know me and Cecil Taylor Ministries. This is a print interview found at https://keonlindsey.com/interview-with-author-cecil-taylor/ and takes three minutes to read. Also, I joined the “Pursue Your Passion” podcast to talk about my passion for ministry and my latest books. The fifteen-minute interview is found at https://scwguild.com/2024/03/27/pursue-your-passion-cecil-taylor-2/ . I would appreciate you checking out both interviews.
