This month’s episode on the #5 theme, Repentance and Forgiveness, is a serendipitous follow-up to last month’s #6 theme of Love, Mercy and Service to Others, as there is a connection between forgiveness and mercy.
Jesus preached a message of repentance for sins and offered forgiveness to those who repented. You see this in his interactions with outcasts like tax collectors and prostitutes. Jesus explains the message further in parables that reveal the forgiving nature of God.
But not all is sweetness and light. Jesus describes sin that should be cut out of our lives and for which we need to repent. He berates those who do not accept his message and urges them to repent.
After studying the scripture in the first half of the podcast, Cecil converses with David Inman, a repentant Christian himself, who has extensively studied the Bible on this topic of forgiveness. David especially connects the idea of receiving forgiveness to the mandate to forgive others.
